Charity Drive for Cranio Care Bears
Throughout the month of February we will be working with our A&D partners to collect items for care packages.
To celebrate the month of love, all throughout February MarxModa is hosting a drive for one of our favorite charities: Cranio Care Bears! With the mission of giving support and encouragement through loving care packages, Cranio Care Bears spreads awareness and compassion by sending care packages to the families of children facing surgery for craniosynostosis.
What is Craniosynostosis?
The skull consists of several plates of bone that are separated by sutures (fibrous joints) that allow molding through the birth canal and adjustments for the growing brain. As infants grow and develop, the sutures close, forming a solid piece of bone, called the skull. Craniosynostosis is a condition in which the sutures close prematurely, causing problems with normal brain and skull growth and premature closure of the fontanelles (soft spots). Doctors often recommend surgery to return a baby’s skull to a more typical shape. In some children craniosynostosis can affect brain growth and development which is why it's vital to be seen by a specialist sooner than later.
Hand Packaged with Love & Encouragement
Cranio Care Bears was started by two mothers, Summer and Shelby, whose son's underwent surgery for craniosynostosis and wanted to support other families going through the same experience. The care packages contain items that are meant to be both comforting and useful before and after surgery. They vary based on the age, size, and gender of the child, but most contain soft and cuddly comfort blankets, hats to fit the beautiful new heads and keep fingers from scratching at the scars, socks for parent and child, a toy or teether, snacks to give parents energy while waiting for their baby to come out of surgery, and toiletries such as chapstick, bodywash, etc.
Our Hero Jude Tremblay
MarxModa Interior Designer Stephanie Tremblay's son Jude was born with Apert Syndrome, which fused his skull bones together (craniosynostosis) before he was born. Because the brain needs room to grow, he needed surgery within the first few months of his life to create openings for the skull to expand. At the time of his first major skull surgery Jude was 6 months old, and he and Stephanie were sent a care package from Cranio Care Bears who had found the family through medical groups on Facebook.
When this age should be filled with milestones and exciting adorable moments, our days were looming with doctor’s appointments, sicknesses and surgeries. Cranio Care Bears prays for our kids and sends amazing packages for parents who will have long hospital stays that include toys and other items for the kids while they are in recovery. This organization is truly a blessing to our Apert Community and doing so much for so many children who have to undergo such difficult times. They are a small organization started by moms who know what we are going through, and it shows in the details of their packages and their encouragement in their Facebook groups! I would love to see them blessed with a donation that can help them to purchase more items and support more families nationally! —Stephanie Trembly
Jude is truly a hero to the MarxModa team and we're so excited to support an organization that helped him and his family. We hope you can too!
